Submissions

Rules & Details

WHO:

1. All submissions must have been made by a Dartmouth undergraduate student.

2. All submissions must have been made during their enrollment at Dartmouth.

3. All submissions must be the property of the Dartmouth undergraduate submission.  Films created by non-Dartmouth students which a Dartmouth student may have assisted/worked on are not accepted.

4. All submissions must have been made by an actively enrolled Dartmouth undergraduate student (i.e., they may not have graduated before June 2024).

5. The individual submitting the film must be the owner of the film (i.e., you may not submit another individual's film even if you helped on it).

WHAT:

1. All submissions must be under 15-minutes (including credits).

2. All submissions must be in English or have English subtitles.

3. All submissions must not contain any homophobic, racist, or sexist content or intentional slander of individuals.

4. All submissions must be original works of the Dartmouth student and the student must own the rights or have the correct permissions of materials used including but not limited to: music, location, actors, story, etc. 

1) By submitting their film, the participant asserts that they have obtained all necessary permissions, licenses, or rights for the materials used in their submission, including but not limited to music, location, actors, and any copyrighted content. The participant acknowledges full responsibility and liability for the accuracy and legitimacy of these permissions. In the event of any claims arising from unauthorized use, the participant agrees to indemnify DartFlix and its organizers from any resulting liabilities, damages, or legal actions.

2) In the event of any copyright infringement claim or ownership dispute regarding a submitted film, the participant acknowledges and agrees to promptly notify DartFlix in writing. DartFlix reserves the right to request evidence of permissions or rights obtained for disputed materials within a specified timeframe. If a dispute arises, the participant agrees to cooperate in good faith to resolve the matter. DartFlix holds the authority to disqualify or remove the film from the festival until the dispute is satisfactorily resolved. DartFlix shall not be held liable for any legal claims arising from disputes regarding ownership or copyright of submitted films.

3) Participants are solely responsible for ensuring that any music used in their submitted films complies with copyright laws. The participant affirms that they have obtained all required licenses, permissions, or rights for the use of music in their film. DartFlix shall not be held responsible for any violations of copyright laws related to music or any other copyrighted materials used in the submissions.

5. All submissions must have been made during the student's enrollment at Dartmouth.

6. Multiple submissions are allowed.  Submissions may be for the same category or multiple.

WHEN:

1. All submissions must be turned in by the deadline, April 6, 2024 by 11:59 PM EST (no exceptions)

WHERE:

1. All submissions must be turned in via FilmFreeway.  No hard copies accepted.

​

JUDGING:

1. All judging decisions are final and are not up for dispute.

2. All submissions will be judged by a panel of pre-selected judges who the festival director reserves the right to appoint.

FILM CATEGORIES & AWARDS:

1. All submissions must be fit into one of the following categories:

1) Live-Action Fiction

2) Documentary

3) Animation

2. First and second place awards will be awarded in each category creating a grand total of (6)-awards.

​

MISC.:

1. The festival director reserves the right to change/amend/alter festival details and rules if need be.  

2. DartFlix has permission to use any submission for advertising and promotional purposes as sees fit from the point of submission onwards.  

1) By submitting their film to DartFlix, the participant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless DartFlix, its officers, directors, employees, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to the submitted film, including but not limited to claims of copyright infringement, unauthorized use of materials, or disputes over ownership rights.

3. DartFlix has the right to screen any submission selected. 

4. DartFlix has the right to decide what to screen and what not to.
